Ipoh has had its share of theme parks. Some don’t hold out as well as others.
You may have even heard of a particular animation studio theme park that is now abandoned.
But these are the ones that we think are worth keeping an eye out for if you have family that you want to bring.
1. Sunway Lost World Theme Park: Hot Springs & Night Park
The price increases without fail every year but they do keep things fresh by introducing new zones and updating older zones in the park.
If you’ve never been here before, we recommend staying for the whole day so you can try out everything!
This Sunway theme park is different from Sunway Lagoon in Subang Jaya because it has a hot spring park! The fire shows at 9pm are worth waiting for as well.
We do recommend avoiding going during major public holidays though as the theme park is not very large and can easily overcrowd.
2. ESCAPE Ipoh
This is the newest theme park to come to Ipoh and it’s over at Batu Gajah.
The catch is that you must stay over at least one night at their campsite (tents and toilet facilities are available) since they don’t sell day tickets.
Note: Toddlers and seniors get to visit for free.
Seeing the success of ESCAPE Penang, there’s a good chance ESCAPE Ipoh will thrill visitors (hopefully, for years to come) too.
3. TiniTin Town
This venue is for the little children. It’s a large indoor playground with lots of facilities to keep kids entertained.
Prices are reasonable too (tickets are sold on their website). And there’s an on-site café.
Just note that this place feels stuffy around the afternoon as it is not fully airconditioned. Bring socks for the kids or buy them on site.
Despite its shortcomings (e.g., no diaper change room), we think there’s potential for TiniTin Town to improve and be successful.
4. Bukit Merah Laketown Waterpark
If you’re willing to drive about an hour from Ipoh, there’s another waterpark to explore.
It’s cheaper for larger groups to come here rather than Sunway Lost World Theme Park.
But you’ll have to expect overcrowding on public holidays and school holidays. This means queuing for most things (e.g., slides).
And quite often, some attractions may be closed for maintenance.
While you’re here, we recommend visiting the orangutan sanctuary (Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation). You’ll have to take a boat across the lake to reach it but it’s worth it.
Conclusion
Our top recommendation for a theme park in Ipoh would be Sunway Lost World Theme Park. Even if you must spend quite a lot.
And for those that like outdoor activities and camping, ESCAPE Ipoh could be what you’re looking for.
