Snow Beer In Ipoh – Where To Try This Local Favorite

Updated: Apr 3

One of the hidden gems in Ipoh is snow beer. Which locals call suet fa beer. Not every alcohol joint in town serves beer this way.

You can visit these local beer hangouts. It’s a great way to make some local friends! Besides being a fantastic way to wind down the day.

See our recommendations on where to try snow beer.

What Is Snow Beer?

The brand of beer used is irrelevant. It is usually brands of beer that are commonly found in Malaysia - Tiger, Carlsberg, or Asahi.

What makes the drink special is the preparation. The beer is poured into frozen glasses. And this is what gives the resulting drink its unusually smooth texture that makes it very delightful to drink.

Where To Get Snow Beer

There are a few locations in Ipoh that serves snow beer daily from evening time till late.

And these bars have all sorts of delicious local finger food that you can order you’re your beer too. Like salted egg fried squid, fried noodles, and tantalizing chicken wings.

1. Kafe Yoon Wah

Outside Concubine Lane, Kafe Yoon Wah has a strategic spot in Ipoh Old Town. In the evenings, this local beer garden has open air seating and snow beer.

With the canopies, patrons don’t have to worry about rain.

Because there aren’t many other dinner options around in this area, you might end up having dinner here.

They do have a substantial menu even if the food is just average and often, salty.

  • Address: 7, Jalan Bijeh Timah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak

  • Opening hours: 1pm to 12am daily

2. Restoran Frens Corner Snow Beer

This less well-known beer garden is another alternative for snow beer in Ipoh Old Town. It faces a car park not far from Ho Yan Hor Museum.

We find that the food here is better than at Kafe Yoon Wah even if this place is not as breezy. But it can still be a hit and miss depending on what you order.

Most of their tables will be on the car park. They don’t have as many canopy tents as Kafe Yoon Wah.

  • Address: 73, Jalan Tun Sambanthan, 30000 Ipoh, Perak

  • Opening hours: 5:30pm to 2am

3. Fei Bo Snow Beer

Fei Bo Snow Beer in Ipoh Garden East is a familiar name among locals. They also pitch canopies up in the evening for their customers to sit at the roadside in comfort.

The food here is also too salty for our liking but their snow beer is worth getting. And not because it is cheap (it is not).

Football enthusiasts will be glad to know that Fei Bo Snow Beer has a large screen available for those who want to watch football matches with their friends.

  • Address: 8, Jalan Medan Ipoh 3, Taman Ipoh Timur, 31400 Ipoh, Perak

  • Opening hours: 4:30pm to 12am (They close later at 12:30am on Fridays and Saturdays)

Conclusion

Snow beer is a special beverage you can get in Ipoh. But it’s not unique in the way that Ipoh white coffee is.
